Prompt Response: A time when me and a family member shared a moment of joy after things had been tense was when I accidentally cut myself when I was cutting fabric, but my dad and I were still able to joke about it. When I cut myself, I was bleeding pretty bad and there was a lot of chaos as my parents tried to find the right bandages. It was a lot of drama and it was pretty overwhelming. However, after the chaotic moment passed, me and my dad were cracking jokes about me being careless and the blood stain on my headphones. Even though the subject matter was dark, it was nice to share that moment with my dad and it helped me feel more relaxed and less embarrassed about my mistake.

Summary: Today in class we worked on our videos for the Color Purple.

Reflection: I got better reading analysis skills and summarizing skills.

Write about a time when you did something out of the norm. What was it and how did others react?

Prompt Response:  Something I've done that was out of the norm was attending the Globe Academy from kindergarten to 8th grade. At Globe, I was in the immersion program and learned Spanish, as well as learning math and science in the language. When I got to high school, I would say that I felt embarrassed to have gone to a charter school instead of a public school like everyone else. I think others judged me for being nerdy and privileged. I was the one of only a few freshman in the AP Spanish test, and I had already gotten a 5 on the exam, so my experience at Globe definitely put me ahead of my peers. Summary: Today in class we took notes on a poem by Emily Dickinson and analyzed it. Reflection:  I practiced note-taking skills, poetry analysis, and discussions. Describe a time you couldn’t stop laughing.

Prompt Response:  A time when I couldn't stop laughing was when me and my boyfriend were on the way back from our trip to the beach and we were watching a movie in the car. In the movie, the main character was struggling to swim in the ocean and I don't know why I did it but I accidentally spit on myself. I was already very tired, and watching her swimming made me think I was swimming myself, and so I spit out the imaginary ocean water. My boyfriend thought it was the funniest thing in the world and couldn't stop laughing for about 10 minutes. I couldn't help but laugh as well, even though it was pretty embarrassing. Summary: Today in class we completed and submitted our One Pagers on a poem comparison. Reflection:  I got better skills putting my ideas into a format with visuals that can fit on a single page.
