Write about a moment when you had to step out of your comfort zone.

 Prompt Response: A moment when I had to step out of my comfort zone was when I had to make a speech in my AP Lang class. I have never really felt comfortable speaking in front of a group, especially when I have to read my own writing. The speech was a response to an FRQ prompt from the AP exam, even though it was only the first month of school. My speech was about the issues to be considered when making decisions about space exploration. I remember when I was speaking my voice was shaking a lot, especially towards the end and I had to take little breaks to keep my composure. I was very uncomfortable but it felt good to get it over with.

Summary: Today in class we read the prologue of Wild and answered questions.

Reflection: I got better reading comprehension skills and practice connecting to a text.

Prompt Response:  A time in my life where something I believed in turned out to be different than I imagined was when I found out that Santa wasn't real. I never fully bought into the idea that one man could deliver presents to the entire world in just one night, and my parents didn't try all that hard to convince me of it, but I still remember feeling very conflicted on the topic. I would go back and forth, and at times believe wholeheartedly that Santa existed. However, I would still debate with my mom and try to convince her to admit that she was the one putting presents under the tree, and eventually she broke and told me Santa was just a made up character to make Christmas feel more magical for kids. I definitely wasn't that surprised or upset, but it helped me feel more grown up to know the truth and reminded me to trust my instincts when I know I'm being deceived.  Summary: Today in class we read letters 71 - 75 and wrote a found poem. Prompt Response:  A time when something has been both positive and a challenge was when I took AP Calculus. I felt proud being one of a few juniors in a senior class and I found a lot of satisfaction in the content. However, I also felt a lot of pressure to prove myself. I was simultaneously excited to be in the class and fearful that my teacher would think I didn't deserve to be. This shows how an experience can be both exciting and nerve wracking depending on how you look at the situation. Summary: Today in class we read the poems "The Lamb" and "The Tyger" and started working on our one pagers. Reflection:  I got better poetry analysis skills and practice putting information into a one page format.

Write about something that you wish you had more of.

Prompt Response:  One thing I wish I had more of is time. I wish there was more time in the day to be able to balance my school work with my hobbies and passions. I always find myself listing off things I wish I could do more often like reading, sewing, drawing, hanging out with friends, cooking, baking, and spending time with family. When I do have free time, I'm so exhausted from school and day to day life that all I want to do is sit around and do nothing. And when I do have the energy, I overwhelm myself by multitasking, like eating lunch while drawing while listening to an audio book. I wish I had more time to fit all of these activities into my day while being able to give each the time and care they deserve. Summary: Today in class we finished working on our identity poems and posters. Reflection: I practiced my poetry writing and graphic design skills by working on my poster.
