Why do you think filmmakers continue to use stereotypes, even when they can be harmful or inaccurate? Explain one reason discussed in class and give your opinion on whether this justifies their use.

Prompt Response: I think filmmakers continue to use stereotypes even when they can be harmful or inaccurate because of lazy writing and because ideas about groups are entrenched in societies subconscious opinions of those groups. We discussed in class how stereotypes are perpetuated because of lazy writing because writers would rather just recreate a character that has been done before than think up a new character with complexities and layers. In addition, the continued use of stereotypes influences audiences and creates cycles where the stereotypes are used over and over again. I don't think this justifies their use because a good writer is able to create new characters that don't insult or oversimplify certain groups.
